The Process
What is involved in a psychoeducational evaluation?
Prior to the Evaluation
You will be requested to complete several forms and provide copies of previous evaluations and Individual Education Plans (IEP) or 504 plans if applicable and available. Rating scales will be sent to parents and approved teachers to gather information about your child’s behavioral, emotional, social, and adaptive functioning.
Parent Interview
The parent interview consists of a scheduled meeting conducted by phone, virtually, or in person prior to the first day of testing. This meeting provides an opportunity to discuss the goals and reasons for testing, review history information, and answer questions regarding the evaluation process.
Evaluation Days
Psychoeducational evaluations are typically conducted over two sessions on two separate days. Usually, sessions are scheduled in the mornings before lunch. Typically, breaks are taken during the evaluation.
Following the Evaluation
After testing is completed, history information is collected, and forms and ratings scales have been submitted, a comprehensive report including results and recommendations will be reviewed with parents via a reporting conference. The reporting conference will be scheduled following the evaluation and usually occurs approximately six weeks from the last testing date if all information has been submitted. When appropriate, a phone call may be scheduled a week or two after testing has been completed to discuss preliminary findings.
